World Trade Center
We remember the soaring Twin Towers, 110 stories high, poking through clouds one day, offering crystalline views of places as far away as Greenwich, Connecticut. But what also awed visitors was the World Trade Center's sheer mass. Fifty-thousand people, from corporate presidents to shoeshine artists, toiled there. However, these have been suddenly changed during a September morning in 2001 when two hijacked airplanes stroke into the buildings. With thousands of lives lost, it was a brutal and tragic end for the "monument to world peace". These photos were taken on April 1, 2000.
