Once
it was the largest and wealthiest city in Texas, Galveston lost almost
everything to the hurricane of 1900. The city was rebuilt later on. Gaslight,
stately Victorian buildings and clip-clop of carriage along the Strand district
have revived Galveston's late 19th-century urbanity. Today, Galveston island is
a leading Gulf Coast resort.
